Obituary

Bruce Edward Lee, Sr. was born on February 5, 1934, in Sicily Island, Louisiana, to parents “Red” Johnson and Ozell Lee, who both preceded him in death. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Bruce was first married to Helen Boyd, and to this union three children were born: Stephanie, Cheryl, and Bruce Jr. She preceded him in death. On August 6, 1983, Bruce married the love of his life, Otha, with whom he shared many years of joy, partnership, and devotion.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Renee Ford (Ricardo); his sister, Barbara Lockins; his brother, Anthony Owens Williams (Priscella); stepson Bobby Gulledge; grandson Jason McDaniel.

Bruce was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and servant of the Lord. He received his education through the 10th grade and went on to build a long and respected career. Bruce worked faithfully for more than 30 years as a Foreman at a machine shop, retiring in 2006. His strong work ethic, steady leadership, and commitment to excellence earned him the admiration of coworkers and friends alike.

Bruce’s life was deeply rooted in faith. He served the Lord throughout his entire life and was honored to serve as Chairman of the Deacon Board at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Duane E. Belford. His dedication to ministry, his unwavering belief in God, and his gentle spirit touched countless lives.

In his spare time, Bruce enjoyed bowling and was exceptionally good. He was also known as a practical joker who loved to laugh and bring joy to others. His humor, kindness, and warm presence made him unforgettable.

Bruce leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Otha; his children Stephanie Purdy (Donald) and Bruce Jr.; stepchildren Janice Mitchell and Annette Craig (Harold); nieces Pastor Mary Thomas and Sharon Ezell; a host of grandchildren; his grandson Duan Lee who he took on his annual vacations; Cousins: Clifton Baker and Edgrick Johnson; his play son Gary McClendon; God sister Charlotte Branson (Russell); and his dear friend Deacon Monte Greene. He also leaves behind many extended family members, church family, and friends who loved him dearly.

Above all, Bruce loved the Lord —and he knew the Lord loved him. His faith, his laughter, and his legacy of love will continue to live on in all who knew him.
