Clora T. Allen was born in Rossville, Tennessee, on August 27, 1934, to Annie Moss Hayslett and James Hayslett. She received her primary and secondary education in Rossville. She later met and married Thomas L. Allen of Tunica, Mississippi.
They moved to St. Louis along with his brother and sister-in-law, and Clora's sister, Flora B. Hayslett. There, they became charter members of Midwestern Baptist Church on June 21, 1949. Clora and Thomas welcomed four sons: Thomas, Calvin, Raymond, and Anthony. Thomas Jr., Raymond, and her sister Flora preceded her in death.
She had a host of family in Tennessee, including Vergie Mae Cox, Elsie Franklin, and Noonie. She especially cherished her grandmother Henrieatta Swift and her brother George “Bubba C” Franklin. A special remembrance is also given to PaPa.
Clora worked for many years cleaning homes for various ladies who came to consider her like a daughter. Even after she began working at Barnes Hospital, she continued helping a few of them. After retiring from Barnes, she still worked for them until she finally said, “It’s time to stop working altogether and enjoy my retirement.”
She loved cooking, shopping, playing the lottery, and watching baseball. Over the past year and a half, she faced a few minor health issues and underwent foot surgery this past October. She passed away on April 30th after a brief illness.
Clora leaves behind two devoted sons, Calvin and Anthony, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and two special sons, Jason Kepper and Johnnie Chester.
