Deacon Terrence E.
Hughes
Sep 24, 1968 — Aug 22, 2026
A life well lived doesn't end anymore than music ends...it echoes through time with whispers of beauty and grace. If we listen, we can hear the encore with our hearts, for the song plays on, just as love lives on...
Terrence Hughes, better known as Terry, entered this world on the afternoon of
the twenty-fourth day of September. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized on March 26, 1978 by his grandfather, the Late Pastor C.B. Moore. He received his education at Ashland Elementary and Turner Middle Schools. He began his freshman year at Beaumont High School but after finding out that he loved break-dancing in the bandroom more than studying, he and his mom agreed that a change was needed. He graduated from North County Tech, afterward attending ITT Technical Institute. He became an ordained Junior Deacon on May 14, 1989. Terry joined the Army Reserves and when his unit was activated, he was deployed to Saudi Arabia where he served in the Gulf War.
During this time he became a father to a bouncing baby girl, Adrienne. After returning home, Terrence returned to being active in church, was employed by the Marriott, co-owned a lawncare business, and became father to his son, Terrence Junior, better known at TJ. Terrence worked and supported his grandfather in every way he could. He was dedicated, sincere and always ready to help others.
He began working for Annie Malone Children's Home as a Childcare Provider: He often brought boys in his charge to church so they could learn about the goodness of God. On September 15, 2012 was united in marriage to Tia Alford and they shared a blended family. Terry began a job he loved when he became an over-the road truck driver for Werner Trucking Company. Terrence's love, laughter and legacy will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered
Left to cherish his memory is a loving and devoted wife, Tia Hughes, daughter Adrienne, son Terrence (TJ, grandchildren Jayce and Ja'Hari, step-children, Candace, Tevin (Allissa), Randall (Tyrasha), 7 step-grandchildren Ta'khila, Ra'Nyjah, Shamon, Londyn, Skylar, Tyran, Tevin Jr mother Veronica, stepfather Charles, father Dexter, a loving sister, Lisa, niece, Lillie, cousin/brothers, Deacon Al Burroughs and Rev.
