Doris R.
Brown
June 18, 1930 – February 25, 2026
Doris Robinson was the second child and only daughter born to the union of Willie Robinson and Vivian Gardner Robinson on June 18, 1930, in Saint Louis, Missouri. Her parents and brother, William Alfred Robinson Sr., preceded her in death.
Doris graduated from Sumner High School in Saint Louis, class of June 1948. She attended Stowe College for a year, majoring in nursing, but soon realized she couldn’t handle the sight of blood. She left school and went to work for the dime store.
On March 28, 1954, Doris married Pennington Brown. Three children, Pennie Denise, Anthony (Tony) Lamar and Kelvin (KK) Eugene, were born to this union. Pennington, Anthony and Kelvin preceded her in death, in 1999, 2003 and 2023, respectively. Doris loved her family dearly, always putting them before all else, except for her love of God.
Doris was a dedicated stay-at-home mom, called a housewife in the 1950s, until Kelvin started school. She briefly worked part time at Sears Roebuck and Company on North Kingshighway. In 1964 Doris transitioned to a career as a social worker in the Food Stamp Division of the Missouri Division of Family Services. Over the years she worked in several divisions, retiring in 1992 after 28 years of service, as a supervisor in the Nursing Home Division.
Doris moved her church membership to Washington Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church from West Side Missionary Baptist Church to join her husband. She maintained active membership on the Usher Board, Deaconess Board and Women’s Missionary Union until she stopped driving in 2020 at the age of 90.
Doris leaves to celebrate her life her daughter Pennie; 4 grandchildren, Derrick (Natalie) Brown and Deron Brown of Grand Prairie, Texas, Gerard (Tehylor) Brown and LaKisha (Gerry) Bolden of Saint Louis; 12 great grandchildren, Gerry (Christina) of California, Kelly, Lawanda, Nathan, Savannah, Phoenix, Breylen, and Kadence of Saint Louis, Derrick Jr, Elizabeth, Derrion and Aiden of Texas; 7 great-great grandchildren; brother William Robinson, sister Sharon Burks, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
We would like to acknowledge her caregiver, Tunderleah Mischeaux (Tiny) for all the love and care she gave Doris when she no longer could care for herself. Thank you to her therapist, Tawana Spann, and PT family for their support in keeping her strong. We will be forever grateful.
