Doris Roglon was born on August 23, 1943, to the union of Tommie and Vessie Wilbor in St. Louis, Missouri. At an early age, she married Aaron Smith Sr. in Pacific, Missouri. She later married Tolliver Roglon on April 14, 1966.
Doris accepted Christ at a young age and later rededicated her life to Him. She received her formal education through the St. Louis Public School system and continued her studies in nursing, earning her Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA) license in 1974—an accomplishment she took great pride in. She was dedicated to her profession and served diligently for many years at Lutheran Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital of Centralia, IL, and various nursing homes and hospitals.
Doris was known for her warm smile, gentle demeanor, feisty attitude, big heart, generosity, and unwavering faith. In her free time, she loved playing games with her grandson, watching her favorite soap operas (The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful), and reading her Bible. She also volunteered at the food pantry at Ricks Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she loved attending Bible study.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommie and Vessie Wilbor; her husband, Tolliver Roglon; her brothers, Tommy Jr., Asa W. Jr., Frederick, Clyde, Issac, James, Clifton, and Benjamin; and her sisters, Barbara Perkins and Carolyn McGinnis.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her two daughters, Malaika Roglon of Cypress, Texas, and Makeba Roglonof St. Louis, Missouri. She also leaves three sons, Bryant Smith (Rosalind) of St. Louis, Missouri, Aaron Smith(Natasha) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Reginald Smith of Springfield, Missouri.
Her grandchildren include Aeisha D. Fondren of St. Louis, Missouri, Alexander P. Reeves (Briana) of Evansville, Indiana, Annice R. Roglon (Edgardo) of McHenry, Illinois, Tina Bullock of St. Louis, Missouri, Aaron Anthony Sr.of St. Louis, Missouri, Khamron Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, Joshua Roglon of Warrenton, Missouri, Kevin Hinesof St. Louis, Missouri, Shawn Hines of St. Louis, Missouri, Aaron Hines of St. Louis, Missouri, Elijah Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, Tolliver Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, and Bryant Smith II of St. Louis, Missouri.
She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her sister, Vernell Gibbs, of St. Louis, Missouri, and her sister-in-law, Linda Courtney (Gary) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, also mourn her passing.
She will be missed by her special friends Charlene Smith of Centralia, Illinois, Christine Rita Johnson of Centralia, Illinois, and Marsha Upton, her home health aide, of Walnut Hill, Illinois. A host of other relatives and friends will cherish her memory.
Doris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, faith, and love will remain in our hearts forever.
