Mrs. Dorothy J. Jackson was born on August 2, 1937, in St. Louis, Missouri, to parents Mary N. and Charles Stanford. She was the youngest of seven siblings, consisting of five daughters and two sons.
Mrs. Jackson accepted Christ as her Savior early in life and was baptized at Greater Progressive M.B. Church in 1967 under the leadership of Rev. M.L. Thomas. She briefly served as an usher and volunteered for several years. Later, she joined St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years and continued her volunteer work.
After graduating from Vashon High School in 1955, she attended O’Fallon Technical High School in 1960, completing the Licensed Practical Nurse Program. After passing her state boards, she received her license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked diligently as a nurse for many years at Bethesda Eye Hospital and Firmin Desloge Hospital (City Hospital).
She married Theodore Jackson, the love of her life, who preceded her in death. Dorothy took pride in keeping her neighborhood clean and served as a Block Captain. She wrote letters to help keep the neighborhood organized, addressing issues such as crime and maintenance to ensure improvements were made. She was passionate about beautifying her community.
She helped raise her niece, Angela Pittman, and also assisted other family members. Family meant the world to her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters: Karen Jones, Joyce Hodge, and Lisa Scott; grandsons: Errol Baty, Ian Jones, and Christopher Scott; son-in-law, Archie Hodge; niece, Angela (Jerome) Pittman; other nieces: Sandra Allen, Nancy Glover, Lela Williams, and Pamela Williams; nephews: Michael Ewing, Leroy Ewing Jr., Kenneth Williams, Jared Williams, and Edward Williams; cousins: Irving Gilmore, Peggy Whitehead, and Jean Williams; and a host of other cousins and close friends.
