Emmalene Mitchell was born on May 30, 1950, to the late Charlie Mitchell and Johnnie Ann Hill in Portland, Arkansas. She was educated at South County Technical School, where she studied business and office education and graduated in 1968.

Emmalene accepted Christ at a very young age at Second Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully in the choir, taught Sunday School and later became Sunday School superintendent, until God gave her a higher calling.

For many years, Emmalene worked at Gateway National Bank as a new account specialist. She later worked for the St. Louis Post Dispatch in classified advertisements until she retired in 2005. Helping others and supporting her community was especially important to her. She took on the challenge of running for and becoming councilwoman of ward one in Berkeley, Missouri, where she served the people faithfully. Being a resident of 43 years and serving in local government for eight years: Emmalene Mitchell worked to be open, transparent, and authentic. Her desire was to always put residents first. She pushed for various needs for Berkley, Missouri such as a community garden, neighborhood grant program, and digital billboards along interstate 70 to name a few.

Her greatest impact, however, came as a minister of the Gospel. She was known for her incredible ability to encourage the people of God, as well as the unbeliever. She had great compassion for souls. Minister Emmalene Mitchell was never too busy to declare the Word of God, share an encouraging word, or to pray. She lived a life of consecration and prayer which enabled her to live out 1 Peter 3:15 which states,

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to every man who asketh you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear."

Minister Emmalene Mitchell did not need a pulpit from which to preach; she was a living epistle proclaiming the Lord Jesus Christ. Her heart's desire was to see men, women, and young people come to saving faith in Him. She faithfully stood in the gap for countless souls, and only eternity will reveal the full measure of her influence and the lives touched through her faithful service unto the Lord.

Minister Emmalene Mitchell departed this life on August 3rd, to ever be with the Lord. Minister Emmalene Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Mitchell and Johnnie Ann Hill and her sister, Lois Jean Swopes.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Lynus Mitchell (Lula); one brother, Daniel Cobbs Sr (Wanda); one brother in law, Herman Swopes; four grandchildren, Aliyah, Lamont, Lynus Jr., and Deja; five great grandchildren, Amari, Addison, Ace, Ameri, Amari, (yes two with the same name); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, one goddaughter and two godsons.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Minister Emmalene Mitchell will be greatly missed.
