Eugenia Young

Life is nurtured in happiness. Eugenia Verdelle Young was born on March 2, 1922, in Biscoe, Arkansas, to the union of Elisha Ransom and Bessie Ransom.

Her happiness was centered around her family, her career, her church, and her friends.

Eugenia was the second youngest of four children. Her two brothers and one sister—Alpheus Coolidge Ransom, Lucy Pointer, and Charles Ransom—all preceded her in death.

She confessed her belief in God at the age of twelve and remained faithful throughout her entire life. God blessed Eugenia in many ways.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arkansas. Upon graduation, she began teaching elementary education in the Helena School District. While there, she met Thomas Allen Young, a successful Helena businessman. They were married on June 2, 1952. From their union, a son, Thomas Eugene, was born.

In 1960, her husband, the father of their three-year-old son, passed away from a heart attack.

Following the death of her husband, Eugenia moved to Saint Louis, Missouri, with her brother Alpheus and her son Thomas.

She joined the Ferguson-Florissant School District, where she continued to advance her education, earning a Master’s degree plus 33 additional hours from Webster University. She enjoyed her teaching career and remained with the district until her retirement.

Eugenia became a member of Saint Peter Claver Parish under the leadership of Father Scott Scheiderer, where she worshiped faithfully.

She devoted her life to supporting her disabled brother Alpheus, caring for her mother, Bessie Ransom, and raising and educating her only child, Thomas.

Eugenia peacefully departed this life to enter her heavenly service on July 30, 2025, at the age of 103.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Thomas E. Young of Saint Louis, Missouri, along with many relatives and friends.
