Harriet Elaine White-Lee was born October 4, 1927 in Saint Louis, Missouri, to the union of the late David and Pearl Baily-White. She was the youngest of 6 children, who all preceded her in death.
She was educated in the Saint Louis Public School System and graduated from Vashon High School in 1944. In1948, she received her Bachelor's Degree at Lincoln University of Jefferson City, Missouri, where she met and married the love of her life, Henry W. “Hank” Lee Jr.
She attended Brown Social Work School at Washington University on a work study program, and then worked as a social worker for the Missouri State Welfare Department and the Saint Louis Juvenile Courts as a probation officer and adoption advocate.
She returned to school and earned a teaching certificate from Harris Stowe Teacher’s College and became an elementary reading teacher shaping the minds and skills of children across Saint Louis City from 1963-1991. With her strong desire for knowledge and education, she returned to school again and received her Masters Degree from Saint Louis University in 1976.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Wayman Temple AME Church where she worked with the Bessie M Pointer Youth Council, and the Lay Organization, as well as taught Sunday School. She was a loyal member available whenever needed. Harriet was a proud active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was a member of La Senoria Social Club, a group of educated women with shared interests, engaging in social activities and community support. She was also very active in the following civic and christian organizations: Echo Children's Home, Board of Education, Lincoln University Alumni Association and the Board of Christian Education just to name a few.
Harriet leaves to mourn her passing nieces and nephews, Marsha and Eric Gentry, Harriet Blair, Rhonda White-Gray, Kevin White (Corvonne), Michael White, Nan (sister-n-law) and a host of grand and great grand nieces and nephews, family, and close friends.
