Irene Cox

June 25, 1942 — October 7, 2025

Irene Cox was born on June 25, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Gussie Mae Bush and Harry Beaman Moore, and was lovingly raised by America Lorraine Munson. She was preceded in death by her siblings Anna Rose Moore-Warren, James Moore, and Harry Moore Sr.

She attended Vashon High School, graduating in June 1960. Irene met her husband, Jesse Cox Sr., in 1958, and the two were married on April 1, 1961. Together, they built a family and welcomed three children: Kimberly Cox, Jesse Cox Jr., and James Cox.

In her early years, Irene worked at Archard Paper Company and later joined St. Louis State Hospital at the age of 34. Known for her strong work ethic and determination, she took great pride in her work.

Irene’s life was defined by love for her family. She will be remembered for her unwavering belief in doing her best to provide the best—for her children, grandchildren, and all those she loved.

She is survived by Jesse Cox Sr.; her children, Kimberly Cox, Jesse Cox Jr., and James Cox; and her cherished grandchildren— Sharonda Cox, Terrell Davis, James Cox Jr., Brandi Morris, Jamaica Cox, LaShonda Cox, Jamecia Gilcrease, Jami Cox Antwi, Jeremiah Cox, and JaMori Cox —as well as fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild who continue her legacy of love.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.
