Robert James Diggs was born on October 23, 1957, in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was the first of three children born to the union of the late James and Carolyn Diggs.
Robert accepted Christ at a young age. He was educated in the Saint Louis Public School system and was proud to be a Soldan Tiger— he loved attending alumni picnics and was Blessed to win a cash prize that had been donated..
He married Ivena Higgs in July 1990. Though they later separated, they remained good friends.
Robert worked many different jobs throughout his life, with his longest tenure at Pete’s Shur Save Market in University City until it closed. His final job was with American Staffing, where he worked until his health began to decline.
One of the great joys of his life was spending time with his “little people,” his beloved nieces and nephews who affectionately called him “Uncle Mom.” He also had a passion for hanging out at his sister’s house, barbecuing or spending time in the garage with his “lil brotha,” Craig—usually arguing about nothing at all.
He loved calling everyone in his phone just to say, “I’m checking on my people.” If you didn’t get a call, it just meant he didn’t have your number!
Robert deeply loved his sisters, Sugar and Sharon, as he affectionately called them. He made sure everyone knew, “They got my back.”
He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Reggie and James Higgs; two sisters, Rosalind (Wilfred) Dyson and Sharon Diggs; his “lil brotha,” Craig Mosley; god-sister, Tiara (Brennan) Duvall; four nephews—Calvin Jr., James Sr. (Thasha), Christopher Tillman, and Craig Kyle; one niece, Sherri Parker; seven great-nephews; eight great-nieces—also known as his “little people”; along with a host of aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, and plenty of friends.
