Obituary

Roosevelt Singleton, affectionately known as "Rosie," was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was born on January 10, 1947, in Florence, Mississippi, to the late Walter Singleton and Maebelle Berry.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edna Singleton; his brothers, Willie Scott and Melton Berry; and two grandchildren, Lamont Elem and Zachery Merrell, Jr.

Roosevelt accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pearlie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Brandon, Mississippi. He received his early childhood education at Greater Pearlie Grove Missionary Baptist Church School in Brandon, Mississippi, and later continued his education at Piney Woods Country Life School.

After moving to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1964, Roosevelt met the love of his life, Edna Delores Henderson. The two were united in holy matrimony in 1972, and from this loving union three daughters were born: Jacqueline, Angelia, and Carmelita. Roosevelt later joined New St. Peters Rock Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served on the Deacon Board under the leadership of Reverend Robert James Dixon, Sr.

Throughout his life, Roosevelt was known as an avid hunter, fisherman, and entrepreneur. He also enjoyed listening to the blues in his spare time. After dedicating 50 years of service, he retired from Boeing in St. Louis. Roosevelt loved caring for his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He expressed his love for his children through the legacy he left behind, demonstrating that with hard work, determination, and perseverance, anything in life can be accomplished.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory: five daughters, Jacqueline, Angelia, Carmelita, Elaine, and Tonya (Gene); and four sons, Oliver (Varry), Fred, Michael, and Don. He is survived by a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and six sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, along with very special nephews; Robert Berry (Patricia) and Melton Leroy Berry, Jr., and a dear cousin, Doris Magee Harris. Roosevelt also leaves a host of longtime friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
