Today, we gather to celebrate the beautiful life of Sultania "Sul" Hudson Godfrey, a beloved mother, grandmother, educator, mentor, and friend whose love, wisdom, and joyful spirit touched generations.

Born on December 10, 1935, in East St. Louis, Illinois, Sul was the daughter of Millard Hudson Sr. and Rosa Thomas Hudson. She was raised in a loving family and maintained a deep bond with her siblings throughout her life. She especially treasured her relationship with her sister, Ozell Epperson, whom she loved dearly.

Sul's faith journey began at True Light Baptist Church in East St. Louis, Illinois, and later continued at Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church, where her faith, kindness, and service to others remained evident throughout her life.

Education was one of Sul's greatest passions. She attended Lincoln High School, continued her studies at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, and earned a Master's Degree from the University of Illinois. Her commitment to learning became the foundation for a distinguished career in education.

Sultania was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Saint Louis Alumnae Chapter and the Eastern Star.

For 37 years, Sul faithfully served as a teacher, dedicating herself to Special Education and Fourth Grade instruction, with a special love for teaching English. She believed every child could succeed and spent her career encouraging, inspiring, and advocating for her students. The lives she touched through education are part of her enduring legacy.

Sul was preceded in death by her loving parents, beloved husband, Milan "Chuck" Godfrey Sr., who passed away on August 15, 1991, and her beloved son, Milan "Duke" Godfrey Jr., who passed away on July 13, 2007 and beloved brothers, Lonnie, Millard Jr., Otis Sr., and Cecil Hudson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Erica Chester (Antonio) and Janel Robinson (Tosh); her treasured grandchildren, Jamal Robinson, Mila Godfrey, Juliun Robinson (Bella), and Antonio B. Chester; her beloved sister Ozell Epperson, nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, godchildren, special friend, Minnie Lowe, extended family members, former students, and dear friends.

Sul embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved spending time with family, dancing, reading, teaching, visiting the casino, scratching lottery tickets, and celebrating life's special moments. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making people laugh. Whether through a funny story, a warm smile, or heartfelt conversation, Sul brought light into every room she entered.

Her family remembers her as the life of the party, a woman whose laughter was contagious and whose love knew no limits. Her legacy lives on in the lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the countless lives she enriched.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we rejoice in a life well lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
