Terry Alexander
McKinney
November 30, 1954 – May 9, 2026
Terry Alexander McKinney was born on November 30, 1954, to Alvin and Mary McKinney in St. Louis, Missouri. Terry was the middle child of nine children and the firstborn son. He faced and overcame many medical challenges from infancy throughout his childhood. His resilience resulted in the name “Superman” as he rose to any challenge he faced. Terry’s tall, slender frame not only made him tower over the family but also earned him the nickname “Stretch”.
Terry graduated from Northview High School. He was an incredibly hard-working person with a career that included Jewish Hospital, a School District in Maryland, Aramark, Favazza’s, and St. Joseph’s Hospital
Terry was well known as a sharp dresser, often wearing the firmest of creased Levi jeans, Converse sneakers, and the freshest of white t-shirts. Beyond his fashion forward nature, he was a lover of puzzles, music, art and calligraphy. He was incredibly detail-oriented and organized.
Terry was preceded in death by Alvin and Mary McKinney (parents), Linda Myers (sister), Sarah Lydell McKinney-Ludd (sister). Katha Lynn McKinney (sister) and Gail Denise McKinney (sister), whose memories he carried with him throughout his life. While their absence was felt, he often spoke of them with warmth and gratitude, holding close the lessons and love they shared.
His legacy is not measured only in accomplishments but in the love he poured into his family. He is survived by his son, Cornelius (Dariane) Wade, grandchildren Jaciya, Cornelius Jr. and Chaznine. He was a loving brother to Gloria Jeane Collier (sister), Danny McKinney (brother), Carol Ann McKinney (sister) and Michael McKinney (brother). He had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He had a remarkable way of making people feel loved. Those who knew him will remember him not only for what he did, but for who he was — genuine, caring, and full of heart.
The loss we feel today is profound, yet the story of his life does not end here. It continues in the countless lives he touched, in the values he demonstrated, and in the love he gave so freely. He faced life’s challenges with grace and met its joys with a grateful heart.
Though we grieve his absence, we honor him by carrying forward the love he modeled and the stewardship he lived by. His memory will continue to inspire strength in times of difficulty and gratitude in moments of joy. He will always be in our hearts.
