Tonya Lynette
Smith
Nov 28, 1975 — May 20, 2026
Tonya Lynette Smith was born in St. Louis, November 28, 1975. She was the youngest of her siblings. Albert, the oldest, preceded her in death.
At an early age, she was baptized at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend Joseph Morgan. Her spirited foundation remained an important part of who she was throughout her life.
Tonya received her education in St. Louis and graduated from Pattonville High School before going on to earn her associate degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant at St. Louis Community College. She cherished caring for others as an OT assistant, a role that reflected her natural compassion and giving spirit.
Tonya later returned to school and completed an apprenticeship in construction and worked as a laborer at different construction sites here in St. Louis. She reveled as she reflected on the many structures that she played a part in building.
Tonya had a deep love for writing, a passion that allowed her to express her thoughts, creativity and heart. She also had an unwavering love for her family, especially her children, Christopher, Dorien “Face”, Amari “Goofy”, and Aniya. There was nothing that she would not do for them.
Tonya had a caring nature, her generosity, and her free spirit. She found joy in the simplest moments in life. She had a heart for others and was always willing to give, often putting the needs of those she loved before her own. In her life, she faced struggles but she was strong and was blessed with people who stood by her side whenever she needed them, especially her sister Rosalind.
Though her time here was shorter than we wished, the love she gave and the lives she touched will remain. She will be missed and forever remembered.
On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Tonya departed this life after a brief illness. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her sons, Christopher and Dorien; her daughters, Amari and Aniya; her loving mother Irma, and stepfather, Carlton; her sisters, Rosalind and Irma; her brothers, Darnell and Verdell; step-sister, Danyell and her cherished grandchildren, Kya, Santana, and Journey.
Nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
