Yvonne Marie McDaniel was born on September 10, 1941, at City Hospital #1 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the third of four children born to the union of Robert W. Hubbard Jr. and Bernice Hubbard (née Roberts). Her oldest sibling and brother, Robert William Hubbard III, preceded her in death.
Yvonne accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Herman Gore Sr. at Christ Southern Mission Baptist Church. She later became a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church UCC, where she served for over 50 years as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, Girl Scout leader, and in the Food Ministry.
On January 26, 1964, Yvonne married the late Robert McDaniel Sr. in her parents' living room. To this union, three children were born: one daughter, Barbara Jean (who preceded her in death), and two sons, Robert Jr. and Lawrence (Larry).
Yvonne attended Beaumont High School and graduated in 1959. Twenty years later, she continued her education at Harris-Stowe Teachers College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education with the Class of 1985. She later obtained a Master of Science in Education from Maryville University. Yvonne began her teaching career with St. Louis Public Schools at Waring Elementary and Ford Elementary as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher. She retired from the district in 2007.
Yvonne had a passion and gift for researching family genealogy and Black history. She spent countless hours on Ancestry.com and eagerly shared her findings with family and friends. During her retirement, she joined a quilting club where she enjoyed fellowshipping with other women—mostly talking and making quilts for themselves and others. Yvonne also loved gardening and growing fresh vegetables. Additionally, she volunteered her time with the Washington Metropolitan Food Ministry.
On Monday, June 16, 2025, Yvonne Marie made her transition from labor to reward. “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
Yvonne was a loving mother, sister, proud grandmother, aunt, friend, and the best neighbor. She cherished family gatherings, especially the 4th of July celebration and Christmas, and loved long phone calls with her special friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Robert Jr. (Tamara) of Los Angeles, California, and Lawrence (Larry) of Toledo, Ohio; Arlena McDaniel of Perrysburg, Ohio;three grandchildren: Lauren, Shelby, and Lawrence (Mac);two sisters: Barbara Netterville of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Nancy Robinson; two brothers: James “Jimmy” Hubbard (Rosalyn), and Craig Riggins; three nieces: Yvonne Carter (Rodney), Brittnie Manning (Allen), and Alexia “Ninky” Porter (who preceded her in death); three nephews: Elvis Netterville Jr., Michael Netterville (Angela), and Calvin Brown (Jennifer); and a host of cousins, friends, neighbors, and former co-workers.
